Chargers Drop Road Contest at St. Thomas
The Crandall Chargers fell 65–45 to St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon at STU, as the home team pulled away with a strong second-half performance.
St. Thomas jumped out to an early lead, taking a 22–10 advantage after the first quarter. Crandall responded with its best stretch of the game in the second quarter, shooting efficiently and outscoring the Tommies 19–10 to cut the deficit to 32–29 at halftime.
Momentum swung decisively after the break, as St. Thomas opened the third quarter with a sustained run, outscoring Crandall 24–8 to create separation heading into the final frame. The Chargers continued to compete defensively but were unable to generate enough offense down the stretch to close the gap.
Charity Hearn led Crandall with 10 points and 7 rebounds, while Tristan DesRoches added 11 points, including a pair of three-pointers during the second-quarter push. Lauren Lilly finished with 8 points, and Ella Smith contributed 5 points and 7 rebounds off the bench.
Crandall shot 29.0 percent from the field and 20.0 percent from three-point range, while St. Thomas converted 10 three-pointers and finished at 37.0 percent from beyond the arc. Turnovers proved costly, as St. Thomas capitalized for 22 points off turnovers.
The Chargers will look to build on their strong second-quarter play and defensive effort as they prepare for their next matchup.
