Chargers Show Fight but Fall to Mount Saint Vincent

The Crandall Chargers battled through four quarters but came up short in a 93–56 road loss to Mount Saint Vincent on Friday afternoon at the A. Garnet Brown Gymnasium. The result moves Crandall to 0–1 on the season, while MSVU opened conference play with a win

Mount Saint Vincent built an early lead behind strong perimeter shooting and defensive pressure, taking a 27–12 advantage after the first quarter and extending the margin into halftime. Despite the deficit, the Chargers responded with their best stretch of basketball in the third quarter, outscoring MSVU 22–21 and showing improved offensive flow and defensive intensity.

Ella Smith led Crandall offensively with 14 points, knocking down five field goals and adding five rebounds. Charity Hearn finished with 11 points, while Kelsey Alward added six points and five rebounds inside. Lauren Lilly contributed five points and worked hard on the glass, and Janaya Hiltz provided a spark off the bench with five points in limited minutes

Crandall shot 39.2% from the field and 27.3% from three-point range, with the third quarter standing out as the Chargers' most efficient offensive period (69.2% shooting). Defensively, Crandall recorded 14 steals and forced turnovers, but MSVU capitalized with 52 points off turnovers, which proved to be a key difference in the game.

Despite the final score, the Chargers showed resilience, particularly in the second half, and gained valuable experience against a tough conference opponent. Crandall will look to build on its strong third-quarter performance as they face MSVU again tommorrow at 2:00pm in Halifax.
