Holland Pulls Away Late to Defeat Crandall 74–60
Crandall jumped out to a strong start, but Holland's depth and second-half execution proved decisive as the visitors earned a 74–60 win on Saturday afternoon at Crandall University.
The Chargers controlled the opening quarter, shooting 45 percent from the field to take a 25–14 lead after ten minutes. Colby McIntosh and Luca Del Bosco helped pace Crandall early, while Holland struggled to find consistency from the perimeter.
Holland responded in the second quarter, tightening up defensively and beginning to dominate the glass. Behind strong interior play from Vashon Ford, the visitors outscored Crandall 24–10 in the frame to take a narrow 38–35 lead into halftime.
The third quarter proved to be the turning point. Holland shot 45 percent in the period and capitalized on extra possessions, extending the lead to double digits. Jaidon Martin knocked down a key three, while Zachary Dawkins provided a spark on both ends of the floor as Holland took a 60–51 advantage into the final quarter.
Crandall attempted to rally in the fourth, but Holland's defense held firm, limiting the Chargers to just nine points in the period. Holland closed out the game at the free-throw line and on the offensive glass to secure the 14-point victory.
Ford led all players with a dominant performance, finishing with 13 points and 15 rebounds, including nine on the offensive end. Dawkins added 15 points, while Spencer Rossiter and Quinton Martin each chipped in 13 points for Holland.
For Crandall, Colby McIntosh led the way with 21 points, while Luca Del Bosco recorded a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double. Despite the strong individual efforts, Crandall was outscored 36–19 in the second half.
Holland finished the game with a 48–34 rebounding advantage and scored 51 bench points, key factors in the road win.
The Chargers are back in action January 24th heading to Halifax to face MSVU.
