Chargers Battle UNBSJ in Five-Set Home Thriller

The Crandall Chargers pushed UNBSJ to the limit but came up short in a tightly contested five-set match, falling 3–2 (25–21, 21–25, 25–21, 21–25, 15–11) on Friday afternoon at Crandall University.

The match featured momentum swings throughout, with both teams trading set wins and forcing a decisive fifth frame. Crandall opened strong by claiming the first set, but UNBSJ responded to even the match. The Chargers regained control in the third before UNBSJ once again answered in the fourth to send the contest to a final set.

In the deciding fifth set, UNBSJ capitalized on late momentum and closed out the match at 15–11, despite Crandall's continued pressure and extended rallies.

Francois Benoit led the Chargers offensively with 11 kills, three service aces, and two blocks, finishing with 16.5 points. Connor Kirkland added 11 kills on efficient hitting, while Ben Brun contributed eight kills, seven digs, and three block assists. Miguel Gionet provided a spark with 10 kills on .400 hitting.

Setter Mico Guiao guided the offense with 36 assists, while the Chargers recorded 36 digs and eight block assists, consistently challenging UNBSJ at the net.

Despite the result, Crandall showed resilience and balance throughout the lineup, competing point-for-point in one of the most physical and competitive matches of the season.

The Chargers will look to build on this performance as they prepare for their next matchup.
