Chargers Come Up Short in Five-Set Battle at MSVU
The Crandall Chargers pushed Mount Saint Vincent to the limit on Saturday afternoon but ultimately fell in a hard-fought five-set match, 3–2 (25–14, 25–23, 23–25, 20–25, 15–12), at the A. Garnet Brown Memorial Gymnasium.
Crandall faced an early deficit after dropping the opening two sets but responded with resilience and energy. The Chargers found their rhythm in the third set, tightening up defensively and capitalizing on extended rallies to earn a 25–23 win and shift momentum.
That momentum carried into the fourth, where Crandall controlled the tempo and forced errors at the net, taking the set 25–20 to even the match and force a decisive fifth set.
The final set was tightly contested from start to finish. Despite a late push by the Chargers, Mount Saint Vincent edged ahead in the closing points to secure the 15–12 win.
Charlie Benoit led Crandall offensively with 17 kills and added 18 digs, while Jolie Allain contributed 12 kills and 14 digs in a strong all-around performance. Brianna Tingley provided efficiency at the net, recording seven kills on a .250 hitting percentage along with two block assists.
Setter Amy LeBlanc directed the offense with 32 assists, while the Chargers' backcourt was anchored by 72 total digs, showcasing their defensive effort throughout the five-set battle.
Crandall will look to build on the fight and composure shown in the final three sets as they continue conference play.
